WSU first Pac-12 school to offer, makes major impact on 6-5, 275-pound hoss out of California

BIG OFFENSIVE LINEMEN with athleticism always capture the attention Mike Leach and Washington State out on the recruiting trail. So when the tape of a 6-5, 275-pounder out of California impresses the staff, a Wazzu offer usually follows. This was recently the case for a versatile hoss, who told CF.C he thinks he could be a perfect fit for the Air Raid.

The first Pac-12 offer was a special feeling and for Mission Viejo, Calif., offensive tackle Jarrett Patterson, his WSU tender couldn’t have been more gratifying.

“It was definitely pretty exciting,” he told Cougfan.com in a recent interview. “They’re a big program on the rise. In the research I’ve done, there’s a ton of pride in Pullman for the program and team. I was very excited to land my offer from them.”

In addition to WSU, Patterson holds offers from UConn, Nevada, Fresno State and Hawaii. He’s also been steadily hearing from Cal and Arizona State and feels scholarships from the two Pac-12 schools could be on the way.

With the Cougars, though, its been a pair of assistants tag teaming in the recruiting efforts to tell the prep senior-to-be lineman about the offensive system.

“Coach (Clay) McGuire and Coach (Dave) Nichol have been on me for a couple of weeks now,” Patterson said. “Both said they were happy to be able to offer me. Coach McGuire likes me a lot.

“He likes that I’m 275. I’m light, but I’m able to move in space. Also, I work a lot on the pass game and he’s a fan of my pass protection. I know they throw the ball quite a bit at Washington State, so it’s good.”

Patterson added that he’s hoping to get out to WSU either later this month or next month for an unofficial visit.

“I spoke with Coach McGuire about getting out there during spring ball,” Patterson said. “I want to get out there for a practice and check out the school. I really appreciate that they were my first Pac-12 offer. Coach McGuire has a lot of offensive linemen in the NFL. I’ve been speaking to him about that.”

Patterson said he’s eyeing a summer commitment date, before his senior season gets underway.
