McIllece has Washington State at No. 12 in the nation, projecting the Cougs to finish with a 9-3 regular season record.
McIllece also projects WSU to finish second in the Pac-12 North, with a 23 percent chance to win the division based on 100,000 simulations.
While McIllece slots WSU at No. 12, Athlon, Street and Smith and Lindy do not include WSU in their top 25 polls.
Washington State earlier this offseason was ranked No. 21 in Fox Sports’ top 25 poll. Sports Illustrated, Sporting News and ESPN ranked WSU 22nd, 23rd and 25th, respectively, in their top 25 polls.
WSU opens the 2017 season with its first five games at home.
