Cougs, Devils or Dawgs for Seattle star?

KEAUNTEA BANKHEAD, the much-touted receiver/safety from Seattle's Ballard High, appears to be a guy who likes home cookin', because right now it seems the Cougars, Huskies and Sun Devils (his cousin plays for ASU) are the leading contenders for his considerable services.

All three schools are believed to have him on their list of most coveted prospects.

So far this season Bankhead has starred in every facet of the game --- offense, defense and special teams. His 88-yard kickoff return against Woodinville two weeks ago helped seal Ballard's victory. And this past Friday he scored two TDs -- including a 72-yard punt return -- in the Beavers' win over Franklin.

On offense Bankead is averaging seven receptions and 71 yards per game for a stellar 12.4 hashes per catch. His work on defense has been equally impressive.

Bankhead says he's taking the recruiting process in stride and isn't leaning toward one school. But it's clear that WSU, UW and ASU are on the inside track. He was scheduled to take an offical trip to Tempe this past weekend but was sidetracked by fog that cancelled his flight, and says he'll definitely be tripping to Pullman and Montlake as well, though no dates are set.

"I'm just waiting it out, taking my trips and seeing how I like the campuses and stuff," Bankhead told

His cousin at ASU is former Seattle/O'Dea High star Keandre Magee, a walk on linebacker with the Devils.

"I'll be visiting Washington and Washington State," he said. "I haven't decided the rest yet. Hopefully I'll take all the rest after the season so they don't interfere with our playoff schedule."
