Is Hicks verbal No. 12 for Cougs?

BERNARD HICKS IS torn. You can tell it in his voice when you talk to him. He wants to get it over with, but he has obligations he needs to uphold. But it is tempting, to get the recruiting process over with.

And after taking his first official visit this past weekend to Pullman, don't be surprised if Hicks ties up all the loose ends soon and finishes the recruiting process.

"Everything was great, the whole thing," Bernard told of his first official visit, to Washington State this past weekend. "I was really impressed with the academic help. You can get as much help as you need, any time you need it, any time of the day. They are there for you.

"And they have a communications major and Washington State has one of the best communications programs around."

Christian Bass was Bernard's host for his visit to Pullman. "All the players showed me love, the coaches too," Hicks said. "Christian said that it's really cool up there and the town is a nice place to live. The only thing he had to get used to was the weather, but it wasn't a problem for me."

Hicks said that he spoke the most with Cougar secondary coach Ken Greene and that they like him as a safety that can also be a cover corner if they need him to be. "They want me mostly as a safety," he said.

Bernard has official visit set for Oregon State (11/15), California (12/5), Fresno State (12/12) and Boise State (12/19), but he might just take his next trip, to Corvallis, Oregon, before finalizing his college plans.

"I thought really hard about committing," Hicks said. "I really feel like I want to commit to them, but I also feel like I need to take one more trip to make sure before I fully commit.

The Washington State coaches are coming to visit me at my school on December 1st. I'll probably commit to them then, if not sooner."

So would it be safe to say that Bernard is a Cougar barring any major unforseen changes?

"I'd say so," said Hicks.

Consider Bernard a soft commit to Washington State with the idea of firming it up within the next couple of weeks.
