When you're the 18th ranked Washington State Cougars and you're playing the Division I-AA Montana State, that's when.
When you're the first place team in the Conference of Champions and yet surrender over 400 yards offense--not to mention 250 return yards--to the Big Sky conference Bobcats, that's when.
It was ugly.
Many of the Cougar starters, anticipating a restful night of rooting on their reserve teammates, phoned it in early in the game, resulting in a mere 19-7 halftime lead over MSU. The defense, in particular, often looked like they'd only just stepped off the Stanford Stadium field.
John Tippins led all scorers with four trips to the end zone. The running back compiled nearly 200 of total offense, 100 of it on the ground.
As unappealing to the eye as it was, the Cougs advanced to a very attractive looking 7-0 on the season.
They host 5th ranked Oregon Ducks one week from Saturday, October 27, at 4 PM.
