2005 class gets first verbal

WASHINGTON STATE'S 2005 football recruiting class has its first reported oral commitment in the form of Rainier Beach (Seattle) athlete <b>Shelton Danzy. </b>

The news of Shelton Danzy's decision to become a Cougar was first reported by the Seattle Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer Thursday morning. He had told TheInsiders.com on Monday of the offer from Washington State's head coach, Bill Doba.

"I was officially offered by Coach Doba today," Danzy told TheInsiders.com. "He visited my school and checked my grades. When I got home there was a full ride from WSU in a Fed Ex envelope on my doorstep."

The 5-10, 190 pound running back was named first-team Metro League Sound Division lastt season after rushing for 720 yards and six touchdowns on just 71 carries. He also earned second team honors on defense as a cornerback.

He told the Seattle Times the Cougars can see him playing at either position on the collegiate level.

Danzy had also been receiving interest from Oregon and Boise State.

WSU recruiting coordinator Robin Pflugrad told a gathering of Cougar fans in the CF.C chat room last week that the Cougs had offered 10 scholarships thus far.
