Good news for Cougs

Olympia's Jonathan Stewart, one of the West Coast's most coveted prep prospects, will attend the Washington State football camp June 23-26, The Olympian reported on Sunday. Stewart has been offered scholarships by WSU and most of the rest of the Pac-10, and is drawing considerable national attention as well. WSU appears to be in his top five.

"I like Tennessee. Cal offered me a scholarship last week, and I like them. I like Washington State. I want to hear from Florida State and Miami," he told The Olympian.

In addition to Washington State's camp, Stewart plans on attending the Nike Camp in Eugene, along with his Timberline High School camp at Central Washington.

Stewart rushed for 2,609 yards and 36 touchdowns as a junior in 2003, putting him on track to shatter virtually every state rushing record by the time the 2004 campaign is done. He was a consensus All-State pick and the Seattle Times State 3A Player of the Year.

Stewart bench presses 350 pounds, squats 575 and has a vertical jump of 37-inches. He carries a 3.4 GPA.

He is the No. 1 prospect on's Northwest Hot 100 list.
