Cougs in top 4 for Texas stud

GROWING UP in Texas, it's hard for a young ballplayer not to dream of wearing the burnt orange of Texas. And so it is with one of the Lone Star state's prime prep prospects. But Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and a team from the Pac-10 -- Washington State -- are still in the hunt.

Running back/linebacker Jorvorskie Lane says the Longhorns are his No. 1 team right now, followed by the Cowboys, Aggies and Cougars.

"Some guy from Florida came out to watch me a couple of times, but I guess that's pretty much it," said Lane regarding who else he might have on his list of favorites.

Lane's former teammate at Lufkin High, linebacker Tyson Kirksey, will begin his freshman season at Washington State this fall.

Commitment-time frame: "I want to take all of my official visits. I will probably take a few during my senior season and a few after the season."

Lane will play RB and middle linebacker this season, though, the linebacker position will not be that new for him. He played LB as a frosh, running back as a sophomore and junior and will now play both, depending on the competitiveness of each and every game. In other words, he'll play strictly running back if Lufkin has the game in-hand. If not, expect to see him playing both ways.
