Nothing close about this one as Beavs cruise

WASHINGTON STATE lost for the third consecutive week, falling 38-19 to Oregon State in Corvallis today. The loss moves the Cougars' record to 3-4 overall, 1-3 in Pac-10 play. It was the first WSU defeat this season not decided in the final minute.

The setback all but mathematically eliminates the Cougars from qualifying for a bowl invitation. They'd need to win three of their last four games to earn a post-season bid. And with No. 1-ranked USC on the schedule next week, followed by UCLA and Arizon State on the road, it would take some doing. The Cougars close out the season at home against Washington in what figures to be one of the most underwhelming games of the Pac-10 season.

On Saturday, the Beavers drove 82 yards on their first series to go up 7-0 and never looked back. They led 24-3 at halftime and extended their lead to 31-5 in the third.

QB Derek Anderson led the Beaver assault, tossing for 270 yards and three TDs, while running back Ryan Cole racked up 104 ground yards.

Cougar QB Alex Brink, making his first collegiate start, completed 15 of 41 passes for 200 yards, one TD and two interceptions.

Running back Jerome Harrison, also making his first start as a Cougar, tallied 99 yards on 20 carrries and scored a TD in the third quarter.

In dropping to 3-4, the Cougars are under .500 for the first time in four years.
