launches the Recruiting Wire

IN THE WORKS for months, today launches a regular new feature we are calling the Recruiting Wire. Over the past seven seasons, we've brought you the all the latest news on Cougar football and Cougar recruiting. Today, we turn that up a notch. Actually, we're going to turn it up several notches.

National Letter of Intent Day is just over three months away. Beginning today, will be providing more premium recruiting content than ever before. Better still, this increase in recruiting content will be generated by CF.C staff with the focus squarely trained on Washington State. Premium subscribers will notice a significant ramp up in the number of stories, Hot News, Breaking News and updates on all things Cougars recruiting. But does this mean there will be less news on the current season?

Not a chance.

We take pride in our coverage of Cougar football and in the fact that no print or online source comes close to offering the amount of Cougar football coverage we do here at CF.C. In 2003, we published over 325 original WSU football related articles. We're nearly at that mark for 2004 and anticipate crossing the 500 article line (at least) by the end of the year!

CF.C will continue to bring you all the news from practice, through our correspondents whose boots are on the ground in Pullman. If anything, you're going to see more, not less, coverage on the 2004 Cougs. As a matter of fact, we'll be adding an additional report on Thursday evenings for the rest of the football season. This story will cover coach Doba's Thursday press conferences, the last presser he does before the Cougs do battle that weekend.

Additionally, our plans call for an increasing amount of coverage on Cougar basketball. Still some challenges to overcome--mostly on personnel and time resources--but we definitely have our eye on Friel Court and hope to add more WSU hoops coverage to our already crowded crimson and gray plate. Okay, but does this mean there aren't go to be any free articles anymore?

Not on your life. has always been among the leaders in the amount of free content provided. That will not change. When CF.C was launched we posted a mission statement saying we wanted the site to be a cyber-world version of a neighborhood pub, where the Cougar Nation could gather to exult in our shared passion. Free content has been, and always will be, a big part of that and what we do here.

Wait a minute. What about Chris Fetters? Is he still going to be covering recruiting?

This change is in addition to the coverage you're receiving from Chris Fetters, Northwest Recruiting analyst from Chris is still available for your questions here on CF.C, and he'll still be producing content on Washington State recruiting. Chris, Allen Wallace, Andrew Friedman -- all the Scout recruiting analysts -- will continue to provide timely updates and information on all things Cougar recruiting. Nothing, absolutely nothing, changes from that standpoint.

What will change is the amount of recruiting coverage -- with a distinct WSU focus -- our Premium subscribers will enjoy. More updates. More coverage on visits. More Hot News. More breaking news. More recruiting coverage than ever before.

A quick programming note: You'll notice in the coming weeks and months our front page will be turning over a bit faster, so be sure to click on the "More Hot News" and "More Stories" links so you don't miss anything. Now, let's get to it.

Today, we talk with Jesse Canada, the standout wide receiver who is travelling to WSU on an official visit this weekend in No time to waste.

Also on the docket for Thursday, our visit with Edison's Robert Peele, a defensive stalwart for the Tigers, in Taking care of business. Peele, by the way, is planning on an official visit of his own this weekend to Washington State -- along with his teammate and Cougar commit, Arkelon Hall.

And you won't want to miss the first part of our talk with Cougar commit Shelton Danzy, in The indomitable Mr. Danzy.

Friday, we'll have the Part II of our chat with Mr. Danzy. And we'll have an update with the No. 1 running back in the nation, Jonathan Stewart -- "Snoop" is coming to Wazzu on his official visit this weekend. Also on tap, talks with Stewart's teammate Jaron Taylor, the playmaking wide receiver for Timberline.

Oh, and by the way. Don't forget to check in later tonight for our report on the latest from coach Bill Doba as the Cougs prepare to take on No. 1 Southern Cal.
