11/04 Recruiting Wire - Will Harris

HARD HITTING four star safety Will Harris spoke with Cougfan.com about his season and how his football recruitment is shaping up. Also, one of the most important things he's looking for in a college.. And what he likes best about playing defense. Contact.

Will Harris rates as the No. 13 safety in the nation, and 18th best overall prospect in the West by Scout.com.

The Charter Oak (7-1) superstar likely projects as a safety in the collegiate ranks but Harris simply makes a lot of plays, whether it be on defense or on offense.

"I'm playing real good, playing on both sides of the ball," Harris said.

On offense, Harris is a do-everything triple threat, having played at quarterback, running back and wide receiver. He's found the end zone from all three spots, having scored touchdowns passing, running and receiving. But defensive back is where it's at for the hard-hitting Harris.

"I'm a hitter. I'm working on my speed, and I see the field well." The athlete from Covina went on to say while he might be a talented player in high school, he's not satisfied and has feels the need to work hard on all areas to become that standout player at the next level.

THE STRENGTH of Charter Oak's defense is against the pass, but Harris excels in both run support and pass defense from his safety spot. We thought we knew the answer to this next question but we asked anyway; What he likes best about playing safety...

"Hitting."

HARRIS HAS VISITED Arizona State and has official trips scheduled with Cal on Nov. 20, and he will travel to Washington State on Dec 11. Further visit plans include USC and UCLA to round out his five officials.

The playing time situation is something he'd take into consideration when choosing a college but what's most important to Harris is a school's academics. The Covina athlete plans to go into Sports Management, so a good SM program is an important piece of the puzzle.

"I'm really focused on the major part of it, the education side of things."

Every school in the Pac-10 as well as San Diego State, Michigan and Portland State have all offered. Arizona State currently leads slightly over Cal, UCLA and USC.

Harris said all schools are recruiting him hard right now.

"I'd say Cal, no, actually, all of them, all of them are recruiting me equally hard." Harris went on to say Washington State is one of those schools strongly recruiting him.
