RECRUITING: WSU still on top for Haywood

HARD HITTING Jason Haywood out of Woodland Hills, Calif., has just one more piece of business to take care of before he pulls the trigger on his college choice. In the meantime, another school is making a strong push for the talented defensive star out of Taft High.

Jason Haywood (Taft) still has Washington State as his leader but Nevada is also making a play for the 6-4, 186-pound safety. Haywood told if he receives the test score he's expecting, he'll be a Coug.

"I'm really just waiting for my SAT score to come back in," said Haywood.

Haywood expects to get the results in the next two weeks. In the meantime, he's considering setting up an official visit to Nevada.

"If I don't go to Washington State, I'm thinking about Nevada. I've been talking to Nevada for a while and I think I'm going to set up a trip this week to go out there."

Asked how Washington State and Nevada compare, Haywood said he plans on committing to Washington State after receiving the results of his SAT, reiterating the Cougs are his top choice.

"Washington State has the upper hand."

Haywood is a talent on defense. He's one of those players who's always around the ball and loves contact.

At 6-4, the wiry Haywood certainly has the frame to put on weight and could play either safety or linebacker at the next level. Wherever he ends up on the field, he's going to be one of those guys who just..makes..plays.
