RECRUITING: Scandrick turns focus to recruiting

THESE LAST FEW weeks, Orlando Scandrick wanted to focus on each and every upcoming game as Los Alamitos worked it's way through the playoffs. With the title game now in the books, the Los Al speedster updated on his recruiting status.

Washington State is still in the lead for Orlando Scandrick, but they've been joined by both Oregon and Boise State.

The Cougs were mentioned as a clear favorite by Scandrick each time we've talked to the 6-0, 170-pound wide receiver since his Apple Cup visit. Why the change?

Just keeping his options open, said Scandrick. That, and a lot of people read the internet.

"I kind of want to get out of the habit of (naming a leader)," said Scandrick.

With Los Al in the Division I final last week, a 21-6 loss to Long Beach Poly, Scandrick decided to hold off on any in-home visits during the days leading up to the final game of his high school career.

"I really wanted to take that last week and concentrate on the game, so I didn't have anyone in my house or anything."

Now that the season has come to a close, Scandrick will have an in-home with Washington State later this week.

"It's getting down to a couple schools now."

IN THE title game, Scandrick accounted for the Griffins' lone touchdown.

Los Al dominated Long Beach Poly through three quarters but trailed 7-0 headed into the final stanza. When Scandrick caught a nine-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth, Poly had less than 100 yards of offense. But the extra point was muffed and Poly seized momentum, taking the ball a total of 97-yards to extend the lead to 14-7, and later tacked on another score with time winding down.
