RECRUITING: Scandrick gives soft verbal to WSU

ORLANDO SCANDRICK gave a "soft verbal" to Washington State on Wednesday night. Cougfan.com talked with Scandrick following his in-home to find out the story behind the soft commitment and what's on tap next for the wide receiver.

Orlando Scandrick gave a soft verbal to WSU coach Bill Doba on Wednesday night, the head man of the Cougs making an in-home visit to the Los Alamitos, Calif., native.

An official visit with Washington State's chief competition looms on the horizon after the start of the new year.

While Boise State shouldn't be counted out here, its looking more and more like it will come down to Washington State and Oregon for the 6-0, 170-pound wide receiver with the Cougs holding the upper hand at this point.

"I verballed, but the only thing we discussed was I wanted to have a chance to -- it's more of a soft verbal, it's not really solid -- because I still wanted to look at Oregon," explained Scandrick.

Scandrick has been on one official visit, to Washington State, and hesitated to fully commit before he makes a trip to check out another school up close. The Oregon visit is scheduled for Jan 7.

Scandrick said coach Doba was satisfied with the arrangement, telling him he wants the Los Al product to be sure Washington State is where he wants to be.

"I only had one school under my belt for a visit, and coach Doba was okay (with me) needing another visit to compare. So we pretty much decided on that."

On the year for Los Al, Scandrick caught 50 passes for 823 yards with 9 TDs. He also carried the ball for 183 yards on 24 carries, scoring twice.
