CORRECTION: Reports of DB verbal premature

Contrary to a report in the Los Angeles Daily Breeze quoting Inglewood High safety Brendan Thomas as verbally committing to Washington State, the 6-1, 185-pound senior doesn't have a scholarship waiting for him at WSU.

Cougfan.com spoke with Thomas's prep coach, Charles Mincy, earlier today and ran a story in which he said it was his understanding that Thomas was headed north.

However, a reliable source in Southern California who is close to the prep recruiting scene there said Thomas "needs to get his grade situation together." The source, who asked not to be identified, said that grades might have been the source of confusion as to whether the player did or didn't have an offer.

"I think wishful thinking may have played a role in this for the young man," said the source. "I know of number of schools have looked at him seriously, but he isn't going to Washington State University."

An administrator at Inglewood High echoed the scholastic concern, telling Cougfan.com earlier today that Thomas has academic hurdles to clear.
