Injury Report: Cougs take a knee

BILL DOBA noted last week Washington State was headed into the Baylor game fairly healthy. They didn't come out of it that way, with four players -- three of them starters -- suffering knee sprains. Hardest hit was the o-line, a position at which WSU lacks experience. One starting hoss and a wide receiver are out indefinitely and another o-lineman will be held out of practice for the time being.

Starting left tackle Bobby Byrd was listed as out indefinitely on the Monday afternoon Medical Report by WSU Sports Information after spraining an MCL against Baylor. No return timeline was given on the junior, with more information possible tomorrow afternoon. Sophomore Derek Hunter replaced Byrd Saturday against the Bears.

Guard Dan Rowlands, starting in place of Andy Roof who broke a thumb in fall camp, also strained his MCL and is listed as No Practice to begin the week. Roof is expected to return to practice this week and could be able to play Saturday although how much is yet to be determined after missing the first three games.

Wide receiver Chris Jordan, who has battled through knee injuries his WSU career, sprained a knee against Baylor and was listed Monday afternoon by WSU Sports Information as out indefinitely. Brandon Gibson would appear the likely replacement in the starting lineup if Jordan is unable to play Saturday against Stanford.

Backup tight end Jesse Taylor also sprained an MCL Saturday. The senior was also listed Monday in the No Practice category.

The Cougs could get DT Fevaea'i Ahmu, and cornerbacks Markus Dawes and Don Turner back this week. All three will be limited in practice to begin the practice week for Stanford.
