3-star WR/DB prospect high on Cougs

TWO-WAY STANDOUT Deon Ford, a 6-1, 205-pound three-star prospect from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., has Washington State high on his short list and will trip to Pullman in January. But the competition for his services is intense, with a slew of suitors penning in official visits over the coming weeks.

He'll be at Fresno State on Jan. 5, Colorado State Jan. 12 and then WSU on a weekend yet to be determined.

Ford holds offers from WSU, CSU, Utah and Nevada, and is confident Fresno State will be offering on his trip.

He's also hearing from Boise State, Oregon and UNLV and would like to visit the Broncs and Ducks.

"I'm being recruited as an athlete, but it really doesn't matter if I play receiver or safety," said Ford. "I'm leaning though towards safety."

Despite having a group of schools who have been showing interest and having visits set up, Ford said that he doesn't have a leader at this point.

"I'm pretty much wide open," said Ford. "I'm going to use the trips and make a late decision. I play to leave my last few trips open for any late offers. There are a few more schools who could probably come in with an offer."

Ford did say, however, that Washington State has been one schools who has caught his attention.

"I like Washington State, they've showed a solid interest in me and they have been on top of that with me," said Ford. "They're in the Pac-10 too which I like. I'm still wide open but if I put them on a lit, they'd probably be on top."

Ford said he's not tiring with the recruiting process just yet, but wouldn't mind ending it sooner than later.

"In a way, I'm enjoying it but in a way I want to get it over with because I'm in limbo," said Ford.

This past season, Ford played primarily offense for Rancho Cucamonga, catching 30 passes for 510 yards and scoring five touchdowns. An early season injury limited his time on defense and his coaches made the decision to keep him fresh on offense.

Academically, Ford has a 2.7 and scored a 740 on the 1600 scale of the SAT.
