Is Daniels headed to Washington State?

RUNNING BACK Chris Daniels out of Serra, Calif., the same hotbed that produced Cougar DT Fevaea'i Ahmu, picked up the phone last week and told his old teammate he was going to join him at WSU. But in the vagaries of recruiting and timing, the question at this point is whether the Cougs still have room for him. As of Sunday afternoon, Daniels said he hadn't spoken to a WSU coach in awhile.

Adding to the questions surrounding the situation, Daniels also said he has not taken an official visit to Pullman.

"I decided to go to Washington State," said Daniels. "It was different than anywhere else that I'd they have a good Animal Sciences program up there."

But Daniels told on Sunday afternoon he has not yet talked to any coaches at Washington State to say he's coming -- and it's been nearly a week since he called Ahmu.

"It was sometime last week, seems like a Monday or a Tuesday. The first person I talked to was Ah-ee Ahmu and he told everybody else about it. I haven't talked to a coach yet, I'm supposed to be getting a phone call ... sometime this week. Ah-ee said to get hold of him if I don't (hear) so I'll call him if I don't hear back."

Daniels said he wasn't sure how long it's been since his last contact with the Cougar coaching staff, saying he "hadn't talked to anyone recently."

Washington State, along with Ole Miss, Tennessee and others, had been recruiting Daniels as a running back earlier this recruiting season.

The 5-9, 180 pounder rushed for over 1,300 yards this season and 23 TDs, earning All-League and Conference MVP honors.
