Two WSU Football Players Ruled Ineligible

TWO MEMBERS of the Cougar football team, both former junior college transfers, have rendered themselves ineligible per NCAA requirements, a source at Washington State has told Running back Derrell Hutsona and safety DeWayne Patterson will not return to Pullman next month when the bulk of the team reports for voluntary summer workouts.

Derrell Hutsona, who came to Washington State from Grossmont College last year with two to play two, rushed 59 times for 379 yards in 2006 as a change of pace back behind starter Dwight Tardy. He also caught seven passes for 30 yards and had a 19.3 yard average returning 10 kickoffs.

DeWayne Patterson came to WSU with 3-to-play-2 prior to the 2005 season from Chaffey College. After a junior season that saw him log 24 tackles primarily on special teams in 10 games, Patterson was ruled ineligible for the 2006 season.
