NFL Cougar Highlights: Week Three

CORNERBACK JASON DAVID had his moments--and may have broken his forearm--in the winless Saints' Monday night fall to Tennessee, but it was the big performances of fellow defensive backs Erik Coleman and Marcus Trufant that helped their teams add a number to the win column. Find out how all of the Washington State alums performed in our recap of NFL Week 3.

Hamza Abdullah, DB, Denver, 3rd season: Declared inactive for week three contest; likely out for 30 days due to a hip flexor strain.

Kyle Basler, P, Cleveland, 1st season: Did not play; on non-injury reserve.

Troy Bienemann, TE, Arizona, 1st season: Caught one pass for a 6-yard gain moving his consecutive games with a catch streak to 3. Was nearly decapitated by Baltimore LB Ray Lewis (who was shockingly not flagged for the indiscretion) in a helmet-to-helmet during the contest. Phoenix fell to the Mighty Ravens, 26-23.

Cody Boyd, TE, Washington, rookie : Declared inactive for Skins' 24-17 loss to Jersey Giants; nursing a bum shoulder and neck.

Tyron Brackenridge, CB, Kansas City, rookie : Recorded one tackle in Chieftains 13-10 shoot-out win over the Norsemen. Now using spare time working on his AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year acceptance speech.

Erik Coleman, S, New York Jets, 4th season : The Spokane native notched five solo stops and assisted on 7 more during Jets' 31-28 over the Fins.

Devard Darling, WR, Baltimore, 4th season : No stats from Baltimore's 26-23 win against Zona. Was flagged for jumping into the stands with teammate Yamon Figurs following Figurs' 75-yard punt return for a TD. (Would that flag have fallen at Lambeau Field?)

Jason David, DB, New Orleans, 4th season: Returned an interception for 19 yards and tallied 4 solo stops in Aints' 31-14 loss to Titans. Left with an undisclosed injury (possibly a broken forearm) after making a tackle with three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Eric Frampton, S, Detroit, rookie : No stats from Lions' 56-21 nail-biting loss to the Eagles.

Steve Gleason, DB, New Orleans, 8th season: Out for season on injured reserve.

Jason Hanson, K, Detroit, 16th season : Good on all three PATs, but missed a 46-yard FG attempt in Motor City's 56-21 fall to Philly.

Jerome Harrison, RB, Cleveland, 2nd season : Declared inactive for Brownies 26-24 loss to the Raiders.

Jason Hill, WR, San Francisco, rookie: Declared inactive for 49ers 37-16 loss to Steely McBeams. Nursing a bad hamstring; offensive Rookie of the Year campaign strategy to be revisited at a later date.

Rian Lindell, K, Buffalo, 8th season : Connected on lone extra-point attempt in Bills' 34-7 ass-waxing at the hands of the win-at-all-cost Patriots.

Rien Long, DT, Tennessee, 5th season: Out for the season on injured reserve. Mark May petitions court for restraining order.

Rob Meier, DE, Jacksonville, 8th season : Started in place of injured DT John Henderson, made one tackle in Jax 23-17 victory against Broncs.

Karl Paymah, CB, Denver, 3rd season : No stats from Mile High Club's 23-17 loss to Jags.

Raonall Smith, LB, St. Louis, 6th season : No stats from Rams' 24-3 fall to Tampa.

Lamont Thompson, DB, Miami, 6th season: Registered one tackle in Dolphins' 31-28 loss to the Jets.

Marcus Trufant, DB, Seattle, 5th season : Notched eight solo tackles and assisted on another in Hasselhawks' 24-21 win against Bungles.

Cory Withrow, C/G, San Diego, 9th season : No stats from need recharging Chargers in their 31-24 loss to Brett Favre. He — like the rest of his teammates — keeps having fantasy that Marty Schottenheimer is still his coach.
