The 18 TV appearances ties the 2005-06 season for the most televised games in a season in school history. Last season, 15 of WSU's 34 contests were shown on television, including the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
The Cougs also has the opportunity to be picked up for ‘wildcard' games on either CBS, ABC or FSN for its March 1 and March 8 games against Stanford and Washington, respectively.
"I think having the national exposure and publicity from having our games on TV is first and foremost great for the families and friends of our players so they can watch the people that are really close to when they can't be there in person," WSU Head Coach Tony Bennett said.
"Secondly, it's great that our Cougar fans from all over the country can see us play whether we're home or on the road. The recruiting side is also great, because you're getting exposure to your program and allowing recruits to see the atmosphere of your home court and that you're playing in big times settings."
FSN announced that it will broadcast at least 15 Cougar games, including the Cougar Hardwood Classic against The Citadel at KeyArena in Seattle (Dec. 20) and at least one game in the Pac-10 Tournament which takes place at Staples Center in Los Angeles (March 12-15).
The Cougars have the possibility to have 16 of their 18 Pac-10 Conference contests televised, including at least one appearance on ABC (vs. USC, Feb. 9). At least eight of the games will be broadcast on FSN, while six will be shown on FSN Northwest and/or FSN Arizona.
"Having this many games televised is a testament to our men's basketball program and shows the numerous strides it has made the last several years," Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs, Pete Isakson said. "The televised contests also provide much needed exposure to the WSU athletic department and the university as a whole."
Two of WSU's highly anticipated nonconference road games will be shown on ESPNU as its contests at Baylor (Nov. 3) and Gonzaga (Dec. 5) have been picked up by the network.
