UPDATED -- HE RACED FOR 3,719 ground yards down in the Southland the past two seasons. This coming fall, he'll be running with the pigskin, or possibly turning his hips and racing in the defensive backfield, for Paul Wulff and Washington State. The 5-11, 175-pounder verbally committed to Wazzu on Monday morning. "The new coach, coach Wulff, he's an awesome, awesome guy," says the new Cougar.

Brian Baucham (5-11, 175, 4.4) tripped to Washington State with best friend Kevin Norrell. It wasn't long until the duo started talking about committing to WSU together. And so they did, one after the other.

"And then (Tyree Toomer) my other (close friend), he came up here too and he committed, too. So we all just committed together," said Baucham.

Baucham said the Cougar coaches were a key part of his decision to make a verbal commitment to WSU. The raucous crowd at the Sunday night basketball game was another, and Baucham said he felt it showed him what was to come at Martin Stadium on Saturdays in the fall.

"That basketball game was awesome. The people in the crowd there are amazing. I can tell how it's going to be for football games because at the basketball games, it was packed and they were yelling 24/7. It was really exciting," said Baucham.

BAUCHAM's USC OFFICIAL VISIT was scheduled for Friday. Is he still going to take it?

"I had a visit to USC but I'm not even going to go there," he said. "I'm done."

"Go Wazzu!"

DESCRIBED BY SCOUT.COM as an elusive yet physical runner with a solid set of hands, Baucham dashed and slashed for 1,729 rushing yards this season to go along with 1,990 hashes his junior campaign.

He carried the ball for a combined 42 touchdowns over the two seasons.

Baucham runs the 40 in the 4.4 range, (he was hand timed at 4.36 earlier this year) and is also an accomplished track and field athlete.

He says he needs to get stronger to excel in the Pac-10 with Washington State and that a good college strength program was important to him. Running backs coach Steve Broussard, no stranger to the weight room he, ran the recruiting point on Baucham. Scout has his bench at 240-pounds with a squat of 360.

WSU, Baucham said, recruited him at running back but also noted the Cougs may want to also take a look at him at corner.
