Sacramento guard considering four schools

KYLE WEAVER, Washington State's multi-dimensional swingman, does even more for the Cougs than originally thought. It turns it he's also a prime-time assist man on the recruiting front, according to a standout prep guard from Sacramento who just tripped to Pullman.

Xavier Thames, a talented senior-to-be from Pleasant Grove High, has four schools on his list. He says three have offered and he's fairly close to a decision.

Thames, a 6-2 combo guard is a wiry and athletic prospect who is fairly far along in his recruiting process.

I spoke with Thames recently and he said he's currently concentrating on four schools.

"UNLV, San Diego State, Washington State and Iowa State are the main ones," said Thames. "They've all offered except for Washington State."

When asked if he has a favorite, Thames replied, "They're all pretty much the same, but I do really like Washington State right now."

Thames has already taken a couple unofficial visits -- to Washington State and UNLV. He said he will be visiting Iowa State this weekend.

"Washington State was great. They won their game against USC and I spent time with Kyle Weaver and all the guys," said Thames. "UNLV – I liked it too. I like Coach Kruger and the coaches."

Thames talked a little about the main issues he's considering in choosing a school.

"Good coaches, a good relationship with the coaches and players and playing time," said Thames. "Not necessarily to start right away, but to be able to come in and contribute."

Thames said he sees himself making a decision relatively soon.

"I'll probably decide sometime after the Houston tournament in April," said Thames.

Thames said he currently has a 2.8 GPA.
