CF.C AT 10: Hoopin' it up on the photo front

WHILE THIS MONTH MARKS Cougfan.com's 10th anniversary, our coverage of basketball is really just turning five. We were all football all the time at the start and when we decided to expand into hoops, head coach Paul Graham told us to go pound sand. No lie. So the day Dick Bennett was hired was the day we started seriously covering Cougar hoops.

Of course, the team wasn't much to look at in those days, so we mostly stuck to words, not pictures.

For awhile there, it seemed like all our hoops stories ran with what were basically the same photo: Dick Bennett hollering at someone. The one pic we always wished had been snapped of Dick was the time he offered a one-finger salute to those obnoxious UW students.

Tony likes to the tell the story that a few days after Dick's transgression, a letter arrived from Bobby Knight. He was congratulating Dick on his fine work and welcoming him to the club.

When the Cougs beat Gonzaga at Friel Court in December 2006, the face of CF.C's basketball coverage -- like the Cougars' hoops fortunes generally -- was forever changed. The photos started flowing fast and furious.

The big winner was Kyle Weaver. He is without question the most photographed Cougar basketballer in the annals of CF.C., with nearly 100 pics in the database.

Here is a selection of our most memorable Cougar basketball photos over the years, with heavy emphasis on the last two seasons.
