NFL Cougar Highlights: Week Five

THE BIGGEST NEWS regarding Washington State alums occurred off the playing field this week, as a former Cougar defensive back had a short stay on the NFL unemployment line before being called back up to the bigs.

Here's how all of the NFL Cougars performed in week five:

Hamza Abdullah, S, Cleveland, 4th season :Try out with Houston last week left the Texans very interested, but Cleveland beat them to the punch by signing him, today. He was released by Denver two weeks ago after entering training camp as a starter before being sidelined by a preseason groin injury. He started eight games for the Broncos in 2007, tallying a career-high 48 tackles 7 and pass breakups. He appeared in just one game for the Broncos this season.

Husain Abdullah, S, Minnesota, rookie: Hamza's little brother posted two tackles in Monday night victory over New Orleans.

Tyron Brackenridge, S, free agent, 2nd season: Former KC Chief also tried out with Houston last week. Texans interest in him following the workout is unknown.

Mkristo Bruce, DE, Jacksonville, 2nd season: Did not play; assigned to practice squad.

Michael Bumpus, WR, Seattle, rookie: Caught one pass for 10 yards in Seahawks collapse against the Giants.

Erik Coleman, S, Atlanta, 5th season : Made five solo stops, assisted on another, and covered Green Bay's onside kick, thus sealing the win for the Falcons.

Jed Collins, FB, Philidelphia, rookie: Did not play; assigned to practice squad.

Devard Darling, WR, Kansas City, 5th season : Caught one pass for 9 yards in Chiefs' goose-egg loss to Carolina. Has just 4 catches for 98 yards so far this season.

Jason David, CB, New Orleans, 5th season: No stats from Saints' loss to Minnesota.

Eric Frampton, S, Minnesota, 2nd season : Recorded two stops in Vikings' win against New Orleans.

Jason Hanson, K, Detroit, 17th season : Connected on his one PAT, but made no field goal attempts in Motor City's latest lopsided loss. He needs just 18 points to pass Jan Stenerud for ninth place on the NFL's all-time scoring list. (The way the Lions offense is moving, that could take the remainder of the season.)

Jerome Harrison, RB, Cleveland, 3rd season : Did not play; bye week.

Jason Hill, WR, San Francisco, 2nd season: Did not record an offensive or special teams stat in 49ers' loss to New England.

Rian Lindell, K, Buffalo, 9th season : Was true on his one field goal attempt (from 48 yards) and two PATs in the Bills first loss of the season.

Rob Meier, DE/DT, Jacksonville, 9th season: No stats from Jags' fall to Pittsburgh. Was removed from the game with a right knee sprain in the second quarter, had x-rays, and was cleared to return.

Karl Paymah, CB, Denver, 4th season : Recorded one solo tackle in the Broncos' win against Tampa.

Ropati Pitoitua, DT, New York Jets, rookie: Did not play; assigned to practice squad.

Marcus Trufant, DB, Seattle, 6th season : Posted two solo tackles in the Seahawks meltdown at Jersey.
