VERBAL: California hoss goes crimson

WILLIAM PRESCOTT THOUGHT he would wait another couple of weeks before making a final decision. But it turns out decision day was today. The athletic hoss who tripped to Washington State two weeks ago became the 10th known verbal commitment in WSU's 2009 class and second bona fide offensive lineman. He has what Paul Wulff likes most in a hoss -- long arms, good feet, and room to pack on beef.

Prescott (6-5, 277) joins Quayshawn Buckley of Ontario, Calif., as the two tried-and-true offensive linemen on the Cougars' list of known verbal commits. In all, the Cougars have 10 commitments -- though one is soft and another, receiver Gino Simone, is trending that way.

"It just kind of seemed like the best fit," said Prescott. "It just kind of dawned on me that it was my best choice. I sort of had an epiphany of sorts."

Prescott's sole offer was from Washington State, with Cal and UCLA both giving signs over the past weeks they could be close to offering. Prescott, who had planned on waiting into December before making a decision, said his recruitment process is over whether Cal or UCLA steps up with a late offer.

"I'm solid (on) Washington State as of right now. I've committed there and I committed there for a reason," said Prescott.

Prescott talked to Malik Roberson first on Sunday morning and was expecting to touch base with Paul Wulff later sometime on Monday.

"He was really excited and said it was really great news," said Prescott.
