Simone talks WSU, recruiting, visits

SKYLINE WIDE RECEIVER Gino Simone is a busy guy, what with recruiting and preparing to play in a 4A semifinal state playoff game this weekend in Spokane, but he had a few minutes to chat with CF.C this week. Simone talks about who is atop his leaderboard, his upcoming official visit to Washington State, the scheduling of trips to other schools and more.

On the nature of recruiting rumors; taking visits with an open mind; leaders list:
"You know those rumors are...it's interesting to see where those rumors come from because they certainly haven't come from my mouth.

"As of now, Washington State is still my No. 1. Like I said, I'm going into this with more of an open mind just to see what else other schools have to offer.

"But as far as those rumors go, Washington State is still my No. 1."

Have things changed any recruiting-wise since he decided to take more official trips:
"Not so much. Still just waiting on taking those visits and hoping (post-trips) to solidify some of my feelings," said Simone.

Official visit date out to the Palouse:
"I have my official set for the 12th with Wazzu," said Simone.

Setting up other visits:
As seen in other recruiting stories on Scout.com, Oregon State has been looking to schedule some of their remaining visitors for January. OSU has 19 known verbal commitments (including a grayshirt holdover) already on board. Simone, however, said he hoped to be able to get to Corvallis on Dec. 19 if things come together, although no visit date has been officially set. "They have basically said they just want to get me over and get a chance to show me around, so that's kind of what we've both talked about doing is hopefully getting something in mid-December...I have to talk to (Boise State) a little bit more because it's kind of tough with everything (Skyline) has going and everything they've got going," said Simone.

Final thought:
With a 1 p.m. playoff game this past Saturday (38-2 win over Auburn), was he able to watch a replay of the Apple Cup? "I did get a chance to end up watching it -- it was an exciting win. It was good to see," said Simone.

NOTABLE NOTES:
  • Once a verbal commitment schedules a date for, or takes an official visit to, another school, Scout.com changes their classification from "verbal" to "soft verbal".

  • Skyline, the No. 1 ranked team in the state's 4A classification, takes on Ferris in Spokane on Saturday in a semifinal playoff game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., Joe Albi Stadium. (Issaquah takes on Central Kitsap Saturday in the Tacoma Dome on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the other semifinal)
