Simone has 'awesome' time at WSU

THERE WERE ANY number of things Gino Simone said that stood out during an "awesome" official visit out to the Palouse this past weekend. One that was high up on the Skyline 4-star receiver's list -- being around and breaking down his game film with Washington State receivers coach Mike Levenseller.

Issaquah, Wash., Skyline High

Gut reaction:
"It was awesome. I had a great time. I got to meet a lot of guys and be around a few of the guys I knew, and then some of the other guys that have committed and are being recruited," said Simone.

On the Cougar staff and receivers coach Mike Levenseller:
"The coaches were really good about being around all trip. I talked to Levy the most. We had a meeting or two and that was really good -- that really made me feel comfortable," said Simone.

More detail on Levenseller:
"Levy and I had a really good talk -- He broke down some film of me and pointed out some things I need to work on and things I do well. And that was really kind of exciting for me, to see the things I need to do to get better. That really got me pretty fired up," said Simone. Being themselves:
"The thing that I really liked about this weekend was the coaches kind of let their guard down a little bit...They were just being themselves. I loved seeing that," said Simone.

Motivation:
"There's no doubt that the recruits that were there this weekend, and some of the other guys who they have coming in who I've talked to, it's a great group of young guys. The thing I can say most of all, it is a very motivated group. You talk to any of those recruits and they're real fired up about turning this program around and getting this thing back on top. And I think that's what you can kind of expect as the theme of this group -- turning things around," said Simone.

On Nolan Washington and the 'cream of the crop' saying that came out of the weekend (see earlier article on Nolan Washington):
"Nolan's my guy," said Simone.

Looking forward to meeting the players at Oregon State this weekend:
"I had a real good opportunity to do that at Washington State, I met a lot of guys and I came away real happy with that. So it's really about the same thing this weekend in meeting some of the guys," said Simone.

Does he have a pretty good sense of Oregon State heading into the trip?:
"I do have a pretty good idea. The one question mark, with coach (Jay) Locey, I haven't had a real great chance to sit down and talk with him and just kind of get a feel for everything. But I've heard great things. So it's going to be kind of a wait and see on that and that's one of the question marks I hope to get answered," said Simone.

On what the contact has been like of late:
"I hear quite a bit from all those schools. Like I said, I've been real high off this Washington State trip. I'll wait next week with the Oregon State trip coming up and then we'll just kind of evaluate things after some of these other trips are done," said Simone.

More on the recruiting contact:
"Washington called a few times during the official visit to Washington State. They actually called during one of our down times when I was taking a nap. So I kind of woke up a little bit, saw they were calling. I just kind of let that one go," said Simone.
