Cougs land a soft verbal from DB/WR

IT LOOKS LIKE Mike Walker's legend as an outstanding recruiter in one of the most hotly contested regions of the country, Southern California, will be growing again when letters of intent are signed February 5.

Rudy Burgess gives soft verbal to the Cougs.

The Cougars landed their tenth known verbal commitment this week with three-star cornerback/receiver Rudy Burgess (5-11, 175).

Burgess, a 4.5 speedster from Edwards just north of Los Angeles, told on Monday that he talked with Walker and Bill Doba earlier in the day and cast his lot with the Cougars. There's on caveat, however --- he's still scheduled to take an official trip to Arizona State. That makes him a soft verbal.

Walker had a major hand over the years in landing the likes of Dwayne Wright and Isaac Brown.

Burgess' commitment is significant because the Cougars would like to add two more DB/WR types to its list and Terrell Thomas, another lad they were hot after, just announced he was going to USC.

If all of the Cougars' ten known verbals stick, they'll likely have room for only three more kids in this class (barring grayshirting) given JC commitment and previous grayshirts coming in.
