Dunn's long awaited official to WSU on tap

THE APPLE CUP game was scarcely over when Aaron Dunn, the earliest verbal commitment in WSU football program history, got an email. It was from WSU head man Paul Wulff, on his way back to Pullman. And it was clear from the email that the 2010 Cougar season had already begun.

Aaron Dunn (6-6.5, 235, 4.79) verbally committed to Paul Wulff shortly after his sophomore year in high school, back in July of '08. He's been to WSU countless times over the year but never on an official visit. And he has some specific things he'll be looking for, and forward to, this weekend.

Among them, going over to Wulff's house and sitting down with the coach.

"He sent me an email that night after the Apple Cup. He said, 'We're driving back to Pullman right now and we're already excited about next year and guys are already talking about it. We can't wait to get you down here.' That was pretty cool," said Dunn.

DUNN SAID HE wants to gauge the feeling around the program while he's on his trip.

"I definitely want to hang out with the younger guys and see what their attitude is like after a 1-11 season," said Dunn. "I want to see if they're still as optimistic about the future as they have been.

"I've been friends with Travis (Long) for a while and I know he'll give me an honest answer. I've heard that Jeff Tuel is a really good guy and I want to talk to him. And Gino (Simone), if he's in town. He told me he might be going over to watch Skyline play in the state championship, but if he's there I might try and hang out with him."

DUNN HAS TALKED often with future position coach Rich Rasmussen and area recruiter Chris Ball. But he also hopes to go through a film session with the coaches while on his trip, and particularly with offensive coordinator Todd Sturdy.

"I hope that I'll be able to get in the film room with coach Sturdy and coach Razz and break down some of their offensive film, see what they do that's different from what you see in Martin Stadium when you're just sitting in the stands," said Dunn.

WSU has talked to Dunn about a variety of different things they plan on doing with him in the offense that they didn't do this year.

"I've talked to coach Razz a lot about that. But I haven't actually gotten a chance to talk to coach Sturdy about it, watch film with him and talk about those things (in the offense) so I'm going to be excited to see what he has to say."

DUNN SAID HE'LL have an in-school visit Wednesday or Thursday with Ball before he heads down to Wazzu for his official visit this weekend. And what about that other Pac-10 school who has offered Dunn?

Cal continues to try and pry Dunn loose from the Cougars. Dunn said the Golden Bears continue to make weekly phone calls to him, are asking him to come down on a visit and with the contact period now underway, plan on soon coming up to visit with him in person.

"Coach (Peter) Alamar (Special Teams/Tight Ends) said he's going to come up I think either next week or the week after that...But I'm pretty busy with basketball," said Dunn.
