Adonis Smith talks timetable

WHILE IT'S GETTING closer to decision time for Adonis Smith, the three-star running back from Junipero Serra High in San Mateo, Calif. who racked up nearly 1,500 rushing yards this season, it's not here yet. And, he says, it probably won't come before the year is out.

RB Adonis Smith (5-11, 185, 4.5) is pointing towards early January to make his college choice, which would appear to preclude any additional official visits. He's tripped to Washington State and Northwestern thus far.

"I'm looking to make my decision in early January. Basically I'm going to digest the whole recruiting thing with the two trips that I took, sit down with my parents, just go over everything and make my decision by early January," said Smith.

SMITH TRIPPED TO Washington State back on the Dec. 5 weekend, and to Northwestern this past weekend.

"It was a good experience, I liked it. The coaches were down to earth and there was a nice feel to the school. It was overall a nice experience," Smith said of his Northwestern trip.

SMITH SAID IN the weeks leading up to the Northwestern official, the Cougs came by on a weekly basis and Northwestern came out once. Assistant coaches from a school can come by once a week, solo or in a group, during the December period but head coaches are only allowed a single off-campus visit during the entire recruiting year. Smith's final in-home from the Cougs before the recruiting period came to a close was with Paul Wulff and Chris Ball.

"Basically it was about how they saw me improving their program," said Smith.

SMITH RACKED UP 1,498 yards this past season on 256 carries with 16 touchdowns. He averaged 124.8 rushing yards under the Friday night lights on a Junipero Serra team that went 6-6 this season.

Smith is also an excellent student, with a 3.3 GPA and he easily achieved a qualifying score on the SAT.
