"I used to live there for a good six years, I think from when I was about two until about my second grade year," said Yruretagoyena. "We lived in Vancouver and there was the big (WSU satellite) campus there up on a big hill, right up the street from my house.
Yruretagoyena's dad still lives in the Northwest and the thought of being closer to him while attending college is an appealing one, said the younger Yruretagoyena.
"He just moved to Portland (from Vancouver) just a month or two ago," said Yruretagoyena. "I've always loved the area -- I love the cold. I like the location and the type of people there in (Washington.)
"I want to feel I'm at home because I'm going to be spending the next 4-5 years of my life there. I want to be on a close-knit team."
YRURETAGOYENA WAS ABLE to get out in-state this spring, he attended junior day at UA and the 4-star o-lineman from Chaparral High might also attend ASU's if he can fit it into his schedule. A national type prospect, he has offers from most all of the Pac-10.
"I don't much about any of the schools I'm talking to yet... But I'm coming up North at the end of May or June. I already have it planned to visit (Oregon State, Oregon and UW), and that's just because I've been talking to them for a long time and have just started talking to Washington State," said Yruretagoyena.
Will he also swing by WSU on his Northwest trek?
"It really depends on how those three days play out because we're going to be getting up really early all three days in order to visit (them). But I have to talk with WSU, maybe see if we can," he said.
RECRUITING IS, HOWEVER, still on his back burner for now, though he's planning on narrowing down his list to a more manageable 5-7 schools sometime probably this summer.
"I'm trying not to focus on recruiting too much right now because I'm focusing on my team," he said.
Such is not the case with the schools recruiting him.
"They've just said they love how athletic I am and that I'm a nasty player. They like how I can block the edge, have quick feet and how I can block second and third levels pretty easily. And they like that I finish all my defenders," said Yruretagoyena.
