Trip Report - James Sample

As Grant (Sacramento, Ca.James Sample sat in the stands at Husky Stadium Saturday for Washington's game against Nebraska, he tried to say something to his friend and teammate Viliami Moala, but was unable to hear the response since the crowd was yelling at the top of their lungs...

"Oh man, I've never been around something like that," Sample told Dawgman.com while he was waiting to board his flight at Sea-Tac Airport. "I can't believe how loud it gets in there.

"Me and 'V' we couldn't even hear each other and we were right there talking to each other and no sound was coming out.

"It was really impressive how into the game the fans were and how important good defensive football is to them."

Sample said from watching the game he felt like he'd have a chance to start early should he commit to Washington.

"I was watching their safeties play and I felt like if I was out there, Nebraska wouldn't have been doing the things they were doing," Sample said. "They like me at safety, but I think they really like me at free safety.

"I know that Nate Williams is graduating so I think I'd have a chance to come up there and start right away as a true freshman."

Sample said his host and former teammate Jordan Wallace spent time talking about Washington and the program as well as what the Huskies are looking for to help build the program back into the traditional winner it has been.

"He likes the coaches a lot and I think after spending time with them again, I think I could play for them and really develop my skills," Sample said. "I loved the energy of the stadium and the atmosphere. The coaches weren't happy about the loss, but they aren't guys who get down about things. They are always looking for improvement from their players and competing and that's what I'm all about."

Sample has already taken a visit to Arizona State and will visit Oregon the weekend they host Washington (November 6th) and then he, Moala and teammate Faigame Lopa will visit Oregon State when the Beavers play host to Oregon in the Civil War on December 4th.

"I'm not in a hurry to make a decision, but yeah, I did think about committing while I was (at Washington)," Sample said. "I want to take those two visits and then think about things.

"I don't think I will make a commitment before January, but you never know. I'll decide when I feel the time is right."

We'll continue to keep track of Sample as he progresses through the recruiting process.
