Jerreau happy about decision

On Thursday night, McDonogh 35 (New Orleans) F Jernard Jarreau decided to end his recruitment and committed to the University of Washington. To say he's excited about things would be an understatement, but when it was all said and done it wasn't just his decision...

Washington got the commitment from Jarreau last night and he said he talked with all four Husky coaches.

"I talked to coach (Lorenzo) Romar, coach (Jim) Shaw, coach (Raphael) Chillious and coach (Paul) Fortier, I talked to all of them," Jarreau said. "They were very excited and they felt good about everything."

"They like my overall skills. They want me at the 3 or 4 position and they'll move me around.

"Washington is a high-tempo team, they get after it hard and that's what I liked."

Jarreau said leaving home isn't a big deal to him, but his family had to give their approval in order for it to become complete.

"My family is very comfortable with my decision," Jarreau said. "They talked with Romar and like him as a coach and as a man and they wanted me to be happy.

"My AAU coach, Greg Holmes, was with me on this from the beginning and he was right there with me in making this decision too."

As a junior, Jarreau missed almost the entire season after breaking his wrist in the first game of the season.

That allowed him to fly way under the proverbial recruiting radar until July when he blew up at the Big Shots camp held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.'s Dave Telep had this to say about his performance: "If you value length, he's your guy. Jarreau has work to do on his body and doesn't have the strength to hold his ground or finish with contact. What he has is a desire to chase board, a solid motor and enough upside ala Jeremy Evans (WKU) to be an attractive mid-level guy with a nice ceiling to improve."

Jarreau told he currently measures in at 6'10" and tips the scales and at 190 and admitted he will be spending a lot of time in the weight room.

"I like the weight room; It's my friend," Jarreau added.
