Zeger enjoying senior season

Last spring, current Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) S Evan Zeger decided he had seen enough of the recruiting process and committed to the University of Washington. It has been a while since we've been able to catch up with the hard-hitting defensive back so when we recently talked to him, he gave us some good information including when he will be in Seattle for his official visit...

"I'm coming up on my official visit to Washington when they play Oregon State (October 16th)," Zeger told Dawgman.com Monday evening. "I watched the game on Saturday against USC and it was tense. My teammate Jalen Grimble, he's committed there, and he and I had a $10 bet and I got to give him an earful when I saw him today.

"That is two years in a row that they beat them and it was a great game all the way around."

Zeger had spent the first two years of his high school career at Bishop Gorman and then moved to the Seattle area and played for Skyline last fall, helping to lead the Spartans to a third-straight 4A state title.

However, an illness in the family brought he and his parents back to Las Vegas and he again is wearing the blue and orange of the Gaels although he's been a bit hampered by a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder.

"For the out of state games, versus Hamilton (Chandler, Az.), Del Oro (Loomis, Ca.) and De La Salle (Concord, Ca.), they used me on offense, but mainly I've just been a defensive guy for us," Zeger noted. "My shoulder will heal up and be fine and then I will unload on a guy and it hurts again, so I have had to be a little more tentative with it so I don't hurt it too bad.

"I finally got my first interception last week against Desert Oasis and that will hopefully allow me to get some more. Up in Washington, they like to throw it a lot more and I had a lot more chances to get picks, but down here they run the ball a lot so you don't get as many chances."

So far this season, Zeger has posted 27 tackles and the one interception while also hauling in 6 receptions for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns and has a kickoff return for a touchdown as well.

In addition to his offer from Washington, Zeger has offers from UCLA, Wyoming, Washington State, UNLV, Illinois, Idaho, Colorado, BYU and Arizona State.

"I'm happy with my commitment to Washington," Zeger said. "I love it there and the coaches are great."

This weekend Zeger and his teammates will face off against Western (Las Vegas).
