Huskies get their QB

It took a while and it was a roller-coaster over the past few months, but Washington finally got their quarterback for the 2011 recruiting class when Dorsey's Joseph Gray decided to commit to the Huskies shortly after getting an offer from head coach Steve Sarkisian...

"It's great times, great times right now," a happy Gray told "I got an offer from them today and I told coach Sarkisian that I wanted to commit and he said he was pumped up, he was amped about it.

"He said he liked me because I'm mobile and they like that in their quarterbacks."

While Gray has solid athleticism, he said that wasn't always the case.

"Growing up, I was never really that athletic," Gray admitted. "I had to sorta grow into my body and that took some time.

"While I was doing that, I think I became a more cerebral quarterback and learned the fundamentals of the game and the position so that's helped me a lot."

Gray has put up solid numbers so far this year completing 54 of 95 passing attempts for 1,108 yards, 12 touchdowns and 2 interceptions while rushing for 82 more yards and a score in leading Dorsey to a 4-0 record.

As a junior in 2009, Gray completed 112-of-199 for 1,932 yards and threw 18 touchdown passes to nine interceptions, while running for three touchdowns.

Recruiting was just starting to pick up for Gray as UTEP, San Jose State, Oregon State and Portland State had all been recruiting him pretty steadily since the start of the season, but he said Washington was where he wanted to be regardless of who offered.

"It was my dream school honestly," Gray said. "It's in the Pac 10 and Matt (Lyons) is going to be up there with me.

"My family is all excited about this and they are happy that I'm playing football at that level, but they also are excited that I get a quality education too."

Gray said he hopes to visit Washington at some point during the season to experience a game day, but said he hopes to talk to the Husky coaches about that in the near future to schedule his official visit.
