Huskies pick up interest in Garness

Washington loses two starters along the offensive line after the season due to graduation so they have been scouring the JUCO ranks in order to find a player who can come in and play early. Recently, they picked up their interest in CCSF OL David Garness, an athletic and versatile lineman who can play inside or outside, and he could be visiting Montlake later this month...

"Coach (Dan) Cozzetto and I talked and he said he likes me and he wanted to see more of my film," Garness told recently. "He said he wants to get me up (to Seattle) so I can visit and meet with them.

"I'm real excited about it since I'm from Alaska and my parents are really happy about them showing me interest. I don't have an offer yet, so I'm trying not to get too excited about it, but it's hard not to be."

Garness said he has spoken to Washington about visiting later this month, probably November 18th, but said he hasn't firmed up the date.

"I'm visiting USC the weekend after Thanksgiving (November 26th - 28th), so I was looking at the week before, on the 18th, when they play UCLA," Garness noted.

In addition to his interest from the Huskies and USC, Garness is getting heavy interest from other schools including Auburn, Louisville, Mississippi State, Oregon, Penn State, Texas Tech and Tulsa as well.

Garness plays the "quick" tackle spot in the Rams' offense, where he lines up on the open side of the formation and he's helped keep QB Steele Jantz upright.

"I always take that as a challenge and something I want to do well all the time," Garness said. "Obviously you feel like you can do this better or that better, but I'm having a good season and I feel like I've improved a lot."

Garness was a full-qualifier out of high school so he can sign with a school in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
