Huskies offer another JUCO linebacker

Last week, the Huskies continued their quest to find a talented JUCO player to add to their roster next season when they offered Southwestern LB Thomas Tutogi (6-1, 235). The talented linebacker from southern California is having a huge season for the Jaguars and said he's got some family in the Seattle area and could be setting up his official visit with Washington next week...

"Washington just offered me," Tutogi told Sunday afternoon. "I talked to coach (Steve) Sarkisian on Thursday and he said they like me a lot and how I play the game, so they were offering me and they want me to come up when they play UCLA on November 18th.

"He said they are looking for a couple of linebackers and it sounds like they like me at inside linebacker, but I could play outside too.

"I'm going to call and talk to coach (Mike) Cox next week to firm things up, but that's when I'm planning to go up there."

In addition to his offer from the Huskies, Tutogi has an offer from UNLV and UCLA and USC are showing some heavy interest.

"There was a part of me that thought about committing when Washington offered, but I want to be smart about things," Tutogi admitted. "It was exciting getting the offer, but I want to visit them and talk with the staff and also I want to see who else is interested before I do anything."

Tutogi plays the middle linebacker position for Southwestern and has put up monster numbers, totaling 96 tackles, 13.5 tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

"I'm fast for my size," Tutogi who runs a 4.6 forty noted. "I make my reads quickly and I can get to the ball quickly and that allows me to make plays."

Tutogi's older brother Taimi, plays fullback for Arizona, so he has the bloodlines to play Pac 10 football, but he didn't get much in the way of recruiting attention after he finished up his football career at Chula Vista High School.

"I had some schools calling and talking to me, but none of them liked me enough to offer I guess," Tutogi said. "I just came here to play ball and see if I could get a scholarship offer to play D-1 football and so far that's worked out."

Since he was a full-qualifier out of high school, Tutogi plans to sign with a school in December and he will have four years to play three wherever he ends up.
