Tutogi still very high on Washington

Southwestern LB Thomas Tutogi, one of the top JUCO linebackers in the country, has seen recruiting calm down a bit since he took a visit to Washington a couple weeks ago. Dawgman.com spoke to him over the weekend and he said he's still thinking about becoming a Husky but wants to talk things over with a family member before he does anything...

"Things are going good," Tutogi told Dawgman.com. "They've sorta calmed down a little since about two or three weeks ago.

"I'm thinking about Washington a lot and I talked to coach (Mike) Cox and he told me they won their game against Cal, so it's close for them to be in a bowl.

"They have Washington State this weekend in the Apple Cup and I think they'll get to a bowl, but you can never take things for granted. They have to come out and play well to win."

Tutogi was on a Husky high after his visit to Montlake two weeks ago and said he wanted to get home and talk about things with his family before he made a decision. He's since spoken to nearly all of his family, but has one more to confer with before he makes the call.

"My brother Taimi plays for Arizona and they have a big game against Arizona State this weekend," Tutogi noted. "I don't want to bother him with things about me while he's got a big game, so I will probably talk to him next week sometime.

"My family all backs me and they know how hard I've worked. I just want to talk to (Taimi) about Washington and what coach Cox and the staff up there have planned for me and then I'll see what he says.

"I think he'll be happy for me and won't be worried about playing against me or anything like that. I don't think he'll have a problem if Washington is where I want to go."

As the starter for the Jaguars inside this past season, Tutogi posted 96 tackles, 13.5 tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Since he was a full-qualifier out of high school, Tutogi will sign with a school sometime between December 15th and January 15th -- which is the mid-year signing period for JUCO players.

Wherever he ends up, Tutogi will have four years to play three once he steps on campus.
