Trip Report - Matthew Lyons

Dorsey LB Matt Lyons committed to Washington very early in the recruiting process and he even visited last spring to watch the Huskies in action. Now, only 10 days before signing day, he's finally finished his official visit and said he's ready to be a Dawg and will enroll early so he can take part in spring practice...

Lyons said his host was WR Kevin Smith and the two got to hang out quite a bit, but his favorite part was sitting down with linebackers coach Mike Cox so the two could go over things.

"We just sat down and talked about things," Lyons said after arriving back in Los Angeles. "He told me about the schemes they run and showed me some plays which was really cool because I could see how they were going to use me.

"I liked hanging out with the other players, like Victor (Burnett), Sean Parker and a couple of the other guys that I already knew. We just hung out. It was a lot of fun."

Lyons had been to Seattle once before and said he's been sold on being a Husky for quite some time.

"I just love it there," Lyons said. "The program is on the upswing, they are winning again and I want to be part of what they have going on there.

"When they were here for the in-home last week, the coaches were able to answer my questions and my parents' questions and they told me what I needed to get done in order to enroll in March.

"That's still my plan and I can't wait to get up there and get started."

Lyons said he currently measures in at 6'2", 190 pounds and that he is still projected at outside linebacker.

"I'm just ready for this," Lyons said. "I've been working my whole life to get to this point and I'm going to show up ready to go. I have a lot to work on and learn, so getting a early start is what is best for me and my future."

Lyons is unsure whether he will sign his Letter-of-Intent at home or at school, but says he plans to do it as early as possible on February 2nd.
