"I called and spoke with coach (Mike) Cox and he and I talked for a little while about how I was doing and then I spoke with coach Jimmy Dougherty, the wide receivers coach, for a little bit," Rector told Dawgman.com earlier this evening. "Then coach Sark got on the phone and I talked to him for a while.
"He told me he liked how I played the game and that he really thought I improved as the year went along and that was something he appreciated about me as well as my academics.
"After we talked for a little while he said he was offering me.
"It was definitely exciting and something I've been dreaming about, so it has given me a lot to think about."
Rector, along with his family, have been Washington fans for quite some time, so the question has to be asked -- did he think about committing?
"Not really, at least not right now," Rector admitted. "First off, I wasn't going to make a decision without talking to my parents and the next thing is that I'd like to go through the process and see where things stand later on.
"I have a while before I need to decide anything, so I don't want to rush it."
And when his parents came home, what was there reaction?
"My dad was excited, but my mom didn't believe me," Rector said with laugh. "She didn't believe it was true, but then when I convinced her, she was really happy for me."
In addition to the offer from Washington, Rector is hearing from pretty much every school in the Pac 12 along with Boise State as well.
"Right now, it's pretty much just letters and stuff like that," Rector noted. "Oregon, Washington State and Boise State are the main ones right now."
Rector had an outstanding junior campaign for the Lions this past fall, hauling in 67 receptions for 1,078 yards and 11 touchdowns while posting 42 tackles and six interceptions on defense and averaged nearly 26 yards per kickoff return including one he took back 92 yards for a touchdown.
We will continue to keep track of Rector as he continues through the recruiting process.
