Lawyer talks about surgery; greyshirt

This week, Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian informed Husky nation that Oak Grove (San Jose, Ca.) LB Scott Lawyer, who just signed with the Dawgs last week, is set to greyshirt this fall after undergoing surgery on his shoulder to repair a torn labrum. Dawgman.com spoke to Lawyer recently and he gave us the low-down on how things transpired...

"I've been dealing with it for about two years now," Lawyer told Dawgman.com. "It would pop out and then pop back in and I would just play through it.

"I never missed a game because of it and I felt like I could play through it, but then when I was done, I started thinking about it and felt like it was best to get the surgery now and be 100% when I get to Washington, so that's why I got the surgery now."

Lawyer said he informed the Husky coaches of his decision during his official visit back in January and so they worked out a plan for him.

"They said they were really thankful I was up front with them about it," Lawyer said. "We decided I needed to get the surgery and then heal up and enroll in January.

"I had the procedure this week and my arm is in a sling right now," Lawyer said. "The doctors were real happy with my results. They repaired my labrum which I tore and removed a couple of bone chips that they said probably happened from all of the popping in and out of the socket.

"I'll have a five to sixth month recovery from it, so that should let me get back into lifting pretty steadily before I enroll next January."

Lawyer led his team to an 8-3 record by posting 81 tackles, 8.5 sacks and 13 QB hurries from his linebacker position while also hauling in 11 receptions for 157 yards and one touchdown on offense.

We will continue to keep tabs on Lawyer as he rehabs this spring and summer and will update his progress in the coming weeks and months.
