Huskies get in the mix early for Rowe

Washington has made some of the top prep programs in southern California their focus since the arrival of Steve Sarkisian and Long Beach Poly LB Matthew Rowe is the most recent Jackrabbit to get an offer from the Dawgs. the talented linebacker prospect spoke to recently and he updated us on things including when he plans to make his decision...

As a junior, Rowe played opposite Husky commit Corey Waller to form one of the best edge-rushing tandems in the Golden State.

"Corey and I always laughed because we wanted to 'meet at the ball'," Rowe told "I rush the quarterback well and I have good instincts, so that helps me make plays."

Rowe totaled 72 tackles and five sacks from his outside linebacker position and said he's working hard on his strength and quickness this offseason as well.

"I just want to keep improving," Rowe said. "If you aren't getting better, you're getting worse because other guys are improving all the time, so that's what I'm working on now."

On the recruiting front, Rowe has pulled in two offers and said they are his current leaders, although he realizes there is quite a bit of time before he needs to make a decision.

"Arizona State was my first offer and Washington was my second," Rowe said. "(Washington) called my coaches and said they wanted to talk to me, so I called them back and spoke with coach (Johnny) Nansen first.

"He put me on the phone with coach Sark and that's when I found out that I had an offer from them.

"It was really exciting getting that offer. Corey is going there and that will probably play a little bit into my decision. I'd love to play ball with him some more."

Rowe's older brother Kenny, a standout for Oregon who just graduated, has given his younger sibling some advice on the recruiting front.

"He just said to go where I wanted to go," Rowe said. "He said not to let anyone talk me into going somewhere that I didn't want to go, so that was good advice."

Rowe said he'd like to make his decision early, allowing him to focus his energy on his senior season of football.

"I'd like to make my decision soon, like in the summer at the latest," Rowe noted. "I need to give my all to my team and deciding early will let me do that."

We will touch base with Rowe in the coming weeks and months and will update news as it breaks regarding is recruitment.
