Rick Neuheisel notes and quotes - 4/21 PM

Rick Neuheisel only had a couple of moments to address the media after practice today as he and the rest of the coaching staff had to leave for a function in Tacoma. The Huskies' man in charge gave his take on the status of Tusi Sa'au, the kicking game and the development of the team.

On the injury to Tusi Sa'au: We're hopeful that he'll be ready to go again on Thursday. We've got our fingers crossed that we'll be able to get Thursday's practice and the scrimmage out of him.

On where the team stands: I think we are on track. There are some good things that are happening. I think both sides of the ball, because of their competitive nature, are frustrated because they are not competing. I'm not so concerned about trying to win drills, I just want to see guys play really hard football. I'm satisfied that we are getting closer to that. As we go further down the road and do game-planning, then I think we'll see more intricit stuff that what we are doing now. It's important that we have a great week, and hopefully put our best foot forward tomorrow, Thursday and Saturday.

On the walk-on kickers: That's been a real pleasant surprise. Evan Knudson has been outstanding. We've got to do a better job on punting and kickoff chores, and hopefully we'll see somebody step up there too.

On the move of Jordan Slye to receiver: I'm hopeful that we can see much more of him throughout the week. Hopefully he can feel more comfortable at the position, at least as much as you can in a weeks time, so he can do some things for us on Saturday.

Looking Ahead: The Huskies will hold practices on Tuesday and Thursday before wrapping things up on Saturday with the Spring Game. The start time Saturday is slated for a 12:30 p.m.

Taking Care of Business: Fifth -year senior defensive back Dom Shaw is not currently taking part in spring football. "Dom had some personal problems that he needed to sort out, so we've just got him paying attention to school this quarter," said Neuheisel. The Husky head coach continued by saying that the chance remained that Shaw could return in the fall.
