Could Gift be coming soon to UW Hoops? spoke Monday morning with God's Gift Achiuwa, a 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward from Erie (NY) Community College, and Gift was back home in New York after sending the weekend in Seattle on an official visit to the University of Washington. UW is one of three finalists for his letter-of-intent.

"I like the coaching staff," Achiuwa said of his UW trip. "They are really nice people. They are very religious, which is the kind of person I am. I like the players, I liked hanging out with them. I just liked the team as a whole."

The man his friends call 'Gift' mentioned Darnell Gant as a player he got along with well during his 48-hour trip to the Northwest.

Achiuwa's visit included an informal pick-up game with some of the UW players. "They are all good players," he said. "They are part of the one of the best teams in the country. They are great players, and I felt an opportunity to play with those kind of players."

While Gift has a number of four-year college options, he's limited his final search to Washington, Cincinnati, and St. John's. "Those are the only ones I'm really interested in," he said. "I'm still undecided. There's no leader. As soon as I finish my last visit, I don't think it'll be long for me to make a decision. I have to start thinking about what I'm going to do at the next level.

Look for a choice to be made within the next couple of weeks, as Gift's final official visit will be to St. John's this coming weekend. Expect Achiuwa to eventually pick between the Huskies and Johnnies, as Cincinnati recently signed Cheikh Mbodj, a 6-foot-9, 245-pound forward from Grayson Community College in Texas.

"It's very stressful," Achiuwa said when asked about the recruiting process. "I told the coaches that I can't wait for this to be over. I'm tired of this, and I can't wait to go somewhere."

Whoever gets Gift will be getting a player with two years of eligibility remaining, starting this fall.
