Nike EYBL Interviews - Ashley/Bird

DALLAS, Tex. - During the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Session #2, at Fieldhouse USA this past weekend, took time out to speak to 2012 power forward Brandon Ashley and 2013 shooting guard Jabari Bird about how recruiting is going for them right now, and where the Huskies might fit in their thoughts to the future.

Brandon Ashley:
Word around Montlake is that Lorenzo Romar is coming at you pretty hard.
"He definitely is! Romar has been to my high school games, and he is a really good guy. I would say we have a good relationship."

How is your recruiting coming along?
"I'm still pretty wide open; I haven't narrowed down my list yet. I don't have a top-5 or anything, but I am looking to change that soon. Hopefully in the summer I can narrow it down."

With the fast-paced offense coach Romar runs do you think you would fit right in?
"Most definitely! I like to run the court and do a little bit of everything. I don't want to be just a post-up player. I am a versatile player who likes to post up, push the rock, get a couple jumpers up, rebound, and block shots."

What part of your game do you need to work on?
"Honestly, I need to work on everything. There is not one part of my game I have perfected…work on post moves, I need to work on a go-to move in the post, and get stronger…my outside and inside game - basically everything."
Jabari Bird:
How do you feel about Washington right now and how they are recruiting you?
"I feel great about Washington and how they are recruiting me. When it comes down to make my decision I feel it's going to come down to Washington and Arizona. Those two teams are on the top of my list."

How's your relationship with the coaching staff?
I have a great relationship with coach Romar and coach Chills (Raphael Chillious). They are good people!"

Do you know anyone on the current team?
I know Desmond Simmons. He went to my high school. We know each other pretty well."

What do you think you need to work on to get your game ready for the college level? "My overall game is what I need to work on! I need to work on my defense and hit the weight room more, keep working on my shooting!" Top Stories
