Russell Focused On The Task At Hand

One of the top running backs on Washington's radar for the 2012 recruiting class is Mariner (Everett, Wa.) RB Keivarae Russell. The talented runner has 15 offers, but hasn't focused much on recruiting over the past month or so as he tries to qualify for state in track...

"It's been pretty hectic with school and with track and then recruiting on top of it, but things have been going great," the always upbeat Russell told Dawgman.com over the weekend. "I haven't really talked much to any coaches since I've been so busy.

"I just figure the coaches that have offered me don't need to talk to me right now since they are all out on the road recruiting.

"I know a few are coming by my school before May 31st, so I'll probably talk to them then and see what's up, but honestly I haven't really even been focused on recruiting just because I'm trying to get my team qualified for state and we have a lot of track meets going on right now."

Russell usually runs the 100 and some of the relay events, but said his best event is the 200.

"My usual 200 is like 22.7 or so, but I had a tight hamstring on Friday, so I think I ran a 23.2," Russell admitted with a chuckle. "My 100 is usually right around an 11, but I ran an 11.2 electronic, so I have some stuff to improve on."

As far as recruiting goes, Russell claims 15 offers -- from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, California, Colorado, Idaho, Notre Dame, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington, Washington State, Wyoming -- and says he's still planning to take some trips before deciding on where he wants to play his college ball.

"I really don't have a leader right now, I'm just sorta taking it in stride," Russell noted. "I'm going to U-Dub's Rising Stars camp for sure since it's so close and probably the Nike Camp too, but I'm not sure yet on that one.

"I'm going to go to Cal's camp I'm pretty sure and maybe another one, but I still have to sit down and plan that all out."

As a two-year starter for Mariner, Russell has amassed 3,000 yards and 50 touchdowns and said recently he hopes to have an even bigger senior season.

We'll continue to keep track of Russell's progress through the recruiting process and updated things as they happen.
