UW getting heavy consideration from Beaver

Ranked as the 12th-best corner prospect in the entire country by Scout.com, Dominguez (Compton, Ca.) CB Brandon Beaver pretty much has his choice of schools where he could end up. One program that has been at or near the top for the talented defensive back is Washington and on Monday night he spoke with Husky corners coach Demetrice Martin...

"Coach Martin and I know each other really well," Beaver told Dawgman.com. "I called him and I just wanted to give him an update on where things are with the recruiting process and stuff like that."

Beaver was a little coy when asked what he discussed with the Husky coach, but said things haven't changed since he decided to hold off on making a decision until later this year.

"We just talked about a lot of stuff," Beaver said with a chuckle. "I mean, I'm real big on Washington and what they have to offer. It's a great school and they have a great group of coaches and I like what I saw when I was up there for their spring game in April."

Beaver said he and his good friend and teammate Alphonso Marsh were both thinking about making their decisions, but decided they needed to see more before they committed to a school.

"You only go through this process once, so you have to make sure you choose the right school," Beaver said. "I would love to play with Alphonso in college. We'd like to stay together, but we are definitely not a 'package deal'.

"We are both going through the process individually and we have some offers from the same schools and if the same school ends up with each of us, then that would be great, but we both need to make what is the best decision for ourselves, so I'm not sure what is going to happen."

Beaver had planned to visit Arizona and Arizona State this past weekend, but the trip didn't happen.

"Alphonso couldn't go because he is recovering from surgery and it just didn't work out for me to get there," Beaver noted. "We've talked about our officials and we which schools we want to officially visit and I know Washington will be one of the schools.

"We will probably bring another Dominguez guy, probably Lacy Westrbrook, but we haven't set a firm date yet."

Beaver said he plans to wait things out, take his visits and then make his decision.

"It will probably be after my season now," Beaver said.

We will have more in the coming weeks and months and he gets closer to the start of his senior season.
