Five offers for Montana DE

It has been a while since a Montana prep prospect has gotten the attention that Butte DE/TE Cody Carriger has received. The athletic prospect headed west last week to take two in camps in Oregon over the weekend and then headed north to meet with the Washington coaches. spoke to him recently and he updated us on where things stand and how close he is to making a decision...

"It was a great time for me and my dad out there," Carriger said of their trip to Oregon and Washington. "I went to the Nike Camp at Oregon and then I was at Oregon State for a day of their camp and then my dad and I headed up to Seattle to spend a couple days there and met with Washington's coaches and we got a tour of the campus and the school.

"Coach (Mike) Cox is the coach recruiting me for (the Huskies) and I got to meet with the coaches and my dad and I sat down with coach (Steve) Sarkisian and he told me he loved my motor and how I'm always running to the ball.

"Right now my offers are from Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, Montana and Montana State and I'm getting some interest from some other schools, but those are the ones that have offered so far."

Carriger is an outstanding athlete measuring in at 6'7" and weighing just over 230 pounds and he will be a three year starter at defensive end for Butte when he begins his senior season.

"Cody isn't just a tremendous athlete, he's just a great kid," Butte head coach Arie Grey told recently. "We love his motor and his toughness and just how he goes about his business.

"He's such a great athlete for a guy his size to be able to run like he does, it's pretty impressive."

In addition to his outstanding size, Carriger also has outstanding speed clocking a 4.7 forty in the spring.

As far as making a decision, Carriger told he isn't going to take any more unofficial visits and wants to think things over before he makes a decision.

"I already have some great options, so I'm just taking things in and thinking about what I want to do and where I want to go," Carriger noted. "I want to get my decision out of the way early so I don't have that sorta weighing on me. I want to just focus on my senior season, make it the best it can be and then I want to finish up high school and start my college football career."

We will have more of Carriger in the coming weeks and months as he gets closer to making a decision.
