"We called up coach (Steve) Sarkisian last night and Kalei verballed to Washington," Sai Auelua told Dawgman.com Tuesday.
Sai added that everything went perfectly for Kalei during the Washington Rising Stars camp this past weekend, and that's what really sealed the deal.
"I like it up there," Kalei told his father after the two returned to Hawaii. "I like what I saw, and what the coaches were saying. I think I want to be a Husky. What do you think?"
"That decision is totally up to you," Sai responded.
He thought about it a little more, had dinner with the family, and then Kalei's mind was made up.
Then came the call to coach Sarkisian.
"Is the offer still out there?" Kalei asked Sark.
"Then I want to be a Dawg."
Sai said all they heard after that was screaming. "That's what I'm talking about!" was Sarkisian's response, according to Sai.
Last season as a junior, Auelua posted 20 sacks for one of the top programs on the Islands.
Auelua also had offers from Boise State, Colorado, Hawaii, UCLA and Utah.
